codeigniter developer

CodeIgniter developer
for apps that still run.

Got a CodeIgniter app that the business depends on and no one left to look after it? I maintain, secure, and support existing CodeIgniter 2, 3, and 4 applications — bug fixes, security patches, PHP-version compatibility, and small features — one-off or on a monthly retainer, at a flat €25 / $25 per hour. Senior PHP engineer, no agency layer.

// reply

Within 24 hours

You message me and I reply myself — not a sales queue, not an account manager.

// experience

10+ years of PHP

Over a decade shipping and maintaining production PHP across CodeIgniter, Laravel, and Symfony.

// proof

Live CI app in prod

I actively maintain a production CodeIgniter 2.x platform on legacy PHP — this is real, current work.

// rate

€25 / $25 per hour

One flat hourly rate, your choice of currency — as a one-off fix or a monthly retainer.

01 — what I handle

Keeping your CodeIgniter app alive and well.

CodeIgniter apps rarely need reinventing — they need someone who will keep them running, secure, and adapting as the business changes. That is the whole job, and I take it seriously.

[01] /bug-fixes

Bug fixes & emergency support

Something broke and it is costing you. I reproduce it, find the actual cause in the codebase, and fix it properly — not with a patch that hides the symptom until next week.

  • Production-down triage
  • Form, email & payment failures
  • White-screen & 500-error hunting
  • Broken third-party integrations
  • Root-cause fixes, not band-aids
  • Clear write-up of what changed
[02] /security

Security & PHP-version compatibility

Old CodeIgniter and old PHP are a security liability. I patch the known holes, close injection and XSS gaps, and move you onto a supported PHP version when it is time — carefully, so nothing breaks in the process.

  • SQL injection & XSS hardening
  • Dependency & library updates
  • PHP 5.x / 7.x → 8.x migration
  • CSRF & session hardening
  • Compatibility fixes after upgrades
  • Safe, staged rollout
[03] /features

Small features & changes

The business moved and the app needs to catch up — a new report, a changed workflow, an extra field, a new integration. I add it in the style of your existing code so the next person can still read it.

  • New pages, forms & reports
  • Workflow & business-rule changes
  • Admin & back-office tweaks
  • Email, PDF & export features
  • New API & service integrations
  • Changes that match your codebase
[04] /performance

Database & performance fixes

Pages that crawl, queries that time out, a database that has quietly grown out of control. I profile what is actually slow and fix the cause — indexes, queries, caching — instead of throwing a bigger server at it.

  • Slow-query profiling & fixes
  • Missing index & schema tuning
  • Caching where it counts
  • N+1 & loop-query cleanup
  • Memory & timeout issues
  • Server & deployment sanity checks
[05] /ongoing

Ongoing maintenance retainer

The steadiest option: someone who already knows your app and is on call when something comes up. Problems get handled the day they appear, security stays current, and small changes ship without a fresh negotiation each time.

  • A developer who knows your codebase
  • Priority on issues when they hit
  • Regular security & dependency patching
  • Steady stream of small changes
  • Backups & uptime peace of mind
  • No re-scoping every single task

02 — who you're hiring

A senior PHP engineer who
actually maintains CodeIgniter.

Not a beginner practising on your production app, and not an agency that will hand you to whoever is free. One experienced developer who does this work every week, at a flat €25 / $25 per hour.

// current

Live CodeIgniter in production

I currently maintain a production CodeIgniter 2.x job-board platform running on legacy PHP — keeping it patched, fixing what breaks, and adding features against a large existing codebase. This is not a line on a résumé; it is what I do now.

// depth

Framework fluency, not just CI

Ten-plus years of PHP across CodeIgniter, Laravel, and Symfony. Deep framework knowledge is what lets me read an unfamiliar CodeIgniter app fast and change it without breaking the parts I cannot see.

// direct

You work with me, directly

Every message reaches me, and I do the work. No handoffs, no rotating contractors, no telephone game between you and the person touching your code.

03 — how it works

Two ways to work together.

Whether you have one problem or an app that needs a steady hand indefinitely, the starting point is the same: tell me what is going on. Either way it is a flat €25 / $25 per hour.

// option a

One-off engagement

You have a specific problem — a bug, a security scare, a feature the business needs. I scope it, quote it, fix it, and hand it back with a clear note of what changed. Simple and self-contained.

// option b

Monthly maintenance retainer

You want the app looked after, not just repaired. A retainer keeps me on call for issues, security patching, and a steady flow of small changes — so nothing festers and you always have someone who knows the code.

[01] tell me

Describe the app

A few sentences on what the app does and what you need. Rough is fine — I ask the right questions.

[02] look

I assess it

I look at the code and the problem, then come back with an honest read and a quote — one-off or retainer.

[03] fix

I do the work

Careful, tested changes that fit your existing codebase, with the fix explained in plain language.

[04] onward

Stay or go

Take the fix and run, or keep me on retainer. No lock-in either way — the code is yours.

04 — questions

Frequently asked.

Do you work on CodeIgniter 2, 3, and 4?

Yes. Most maintenance work is on older CodeIgniter 2 and 3 apps that have run in production for years — that is where I spend most of my time. I work on CodeIgniter 4 too. Not sure which version you are on? I can tell you from the code.

My app runs on an old PHP version. Can you still help?

Yes — legacy PHP is normal for CodeIgniter. I maintain a production CI 2.x app on legacy PHP right now. I can keep it running as-is, or carefully move it to a supported PHP version and fix the compatibility issues that surface, without a risky rewrite.

There's no documentation and the original developer is gone.

That is the usual situation. Reading an unfamiliar codebase quickly is the core of maintenance work — a decade across CodeIgniter, Laravel, and Symfony means I can find my way around fast and start making safe changes.

Is this one-off work or ongoing?

Either. Some clients need a single fix or small feature; others want someone on call so problems get handled the day they appear. I work both ways — a one-off engagement, or a monthly maintenance retainer.

How much do you charge?

A flat €25 / $25 per hour — your choice of euros or dollars — whether it's a one-off fix or a monthly retainer. You get a quote up front, so you know the likely scope before I start.

Do you also migrate CodeIgniter to Laravel?

The focus here is keeping your CodeIgniter app healthy — what most owners actually need. If a migration ever makes sense, I build in Laravel and Symfony daily and will advise honestly. But you never have to migrate to keep working with me.

get a quote

Tell me about your CodeIgniter app.

A few sentences is plenty — what the app does, what version and PHP it runs on if you know, and what is going wrong or what you need. I read every message myself and reply within 24 hours with an honest take and a quote at €25 / $25 per hour.
